The San Giovanni Monumental Complex in Catanzaro is a major cultural hub, built between the 15th and 17th centuries atop the remains of the Norman Castle erected in the 11th century by Robert Guiscard. Over the centuries, it underwent several transformations, serving as a hospital, convent, and prison, before being restored and reopened in 1998 as an exhibition center. The complex features a panoramic terrace, as well as underground galleries that were used as air-raid shelters during World War II.
