Summer’s over. And with it, it is also the beach, the coast, the heat and the sun. Well, the latter perhaps will take a little longer to leave. What never leaves Barcelona is electronic music. In August, we said that Barcelona didn’t rest even when all its citizens were on vacation, because that was when the clubs were filled with a greater number of tourists. Now, many of the locals are back and Barcelona’s club network has prepared a scandalous month to receive them. Here we leave you ‘only’ 10 options. The 10 best. But in Xceed, you’ll find many more. Let’s get to it.
10. Max Headroom, Sabi and RNXRX @ Ombra Festival Pre-Launch Party (Moog)
“Dark, elusive, abrasive, and analogical sounds.” This is how Ombra Festival defines its own musical proposal. It’s one of the most experimental, groundbreaking and alternative events of the Barcelona scene. It’ll take place at the end of November, but in September we’ll be able to warm up with 3 artists who form part of the organising team. Max Headroom, Sabi and RNXRX will be in charge of turning Moog into a small refuge for those who want to escape from musical normality.
When: Friday, September 13th
Where: Moog
Lineup: Max Headroom, Sabi and RNXRX
9. Agents Of Time (dj set) @ Onírica (INPUT High Fidelity Dance Club)
Refined techno, not excessively revolutionized and with, possibly, the most powerful melodic armament of the scene. Andrea, Fedele and Luigi form one of the most popular trios of the genre. Their live performance (which has lasted until 12 hours recently) stands out for its own peculiar sound, although on this occasion we’ll discover their facet as selectors. Where do the creators of hymns such as “Obsidian” or “Dream Vision” get their inspiration from? Their DJ set, in which vinyl is always seen, will give us the answer.
When: Friday, September 20th
Where: INPUT High Fidelity Dance Club
Lineup: Agents Of Time (dj set) and Hitch
8. Carl Craig, Moodymann and more @ Detroit Love Rooftop Party (Go Beach Club)
What if Detroit touches the sky of Barcelona? It’ll never be as close as it’ll be this evening. The Detroit Love family, with Carl Craig and Moodymann leading, meet in the city on Sunday (from 6 pm to 3 am) to dance in the heights of the Go Beach Club, in front of the Mediterranean Sea and in two spaces (one inside and one outside). Techno and house sound from the other side of the ocean will be in charge of cause delirium.
When: Sunday, September 8th
Where: Go Beach Club
Lineup: Carl Craig, Moodymann, Idriss D, Flo Real, Audio-in and Oriana
7. Archie Hamilton and more @ Album Archive Fiction On Tour (INPUT High Fidelity Dance Club)
Archie Hamilton is an eminence of the British house. But if he’s also on tour presenting his debut album Archive Fiction, the incentives to go to INPUT get multiplied. The LP narrates the evolution of a changing life throughout a club night. It’s based on the UK house sound that Archie Hamilton has always represented as a DJ. A house sound in which the groove plays a 100% protagonist role. Not dancing with him in the booth? Mission impossible.
When: Friday, September 13th
Where: INPUT High Fidelity Dance Club
Lineup: Archie Hamilton, Hitch, The Deals and Pau Guilera
6. James Murphy (5h set) and more @ Journeys (Razzmatazz)
If we had to explain to a 5-year-old who James Murphy is, it’d be complicated. To understand who James Murphy is, you have to understand what’s LCD Soundsystem. Or what’s DFA Records. He’s the leader of both. You have to understand the importance and magnitude of Hot Chip. Or Arcade Fire. He produces for both bands. And you have to understand who 2ManyDjs are. He plays with them in the famous Despacio sessions. In short, to have James Murphy showing records from his vast collection for 5 hours and squeezing a sound system composed of 10 different emitting points equally distributed throughout the dancefloor is gold. Pure gold. The session will go from 9 pm to 2 am.
When: Saturday, September 28th
Where: Razzmatazz
Lineup: James Murphy and DJohnston
5. Rebekah, Remco Beekwilder and more @ HEX (AlteratE Club)
A new club is born in Barcelona. A conceptual club, not very big, but not very small either. A club in which you can alter your habits, your stereotypes, your body, your mind, your beliefs. AlteratE Club is born, and it arrives with an opening party commanded by the collaboration of HEX with Elements. What kind of music? Rave. Techno, electro, EBM, acid… Rebekah, Remco Beekwilder, PØLI and Lorenzo Raganzini aren’t afraid of pitch acceleration. We recommend this party to any lover of the rawest and most industrial techno sound. Darkness, here, will always be welcome.
When: Friday, September 6th
Where: AlteratE Club
Lineup: Rebekah, Remco Beekwilder, PØLI and Lorenzo Raganzini
4. DJ Playero, Job Jobse, Perel and more @ Nitsa Club (Sala Apolo)
Those who don’t know DJ Playero should just know that we’re talking about Daddy Yankee’s discoverer. Playero is one of the great references for reggaeton. He was a pioneer in the mixture of reggae, hip hop and freestyles in Spanish, obtaining, as a result, the reggaeton we know today. Nitsa will be able to discover what musical selection this man has in his hands. Meanwhile, in Astin, Job Jobse will delight the audience with his famous selection of nu-disco and Italo house, while German Perel, one of DFA’s stars, will perform live her hypnotizing house and electronica textures. A complete night in the two Apollo rooms.
When: Friday, September 6th
Where: Sala Apolo
Lineup: DJ Playero, Brava, Job Jobse, Perel and DJ Coco
3. Nicola Cruz (live) and more @ Razzmatazz
When Nicola Cruz appears on a line-up, everything else gets smaller. The Ecuadorian is the great world reference of ethnic music. Tribal and nomadic rhythms make their way between house, downtempo and deep, always attacking the deepest part of the human soul and trying to mobilize entire groups with a sound full of beauty, elegance and delicacy. In the past Sónar we saw him playing a DJ set, but, on this occasion, the Sala 1 of Razzmatazz will enjoy an hour and a half of live show. An ideal option to discover the full range of sounds produced by this erudite from Ecuador throughout his career. Arrive soon, because he performs from 11 pm to 12:30 am! Then, the party will continue until 6 am with BeGun and a Special Guest yet to be unveiled.
When: Saturday, September 7th
Where: Razzmatazz
Lineup: Nicola Cruz (live), BeGun, Sano and a Special Guest
2. Marcel Dettmann and more @ SIGHT (Pacha Barcelona)
What can we say about Marcel Dettmann that is not already known? The German is one of the great residents and icons of Berghain, the most famous techno club in the world. His industrial sound has led him to be considered one of the most influential minds in contemporary techno. Between the crudest sound of the genre and the most mental and psychedelic, Marcel Dettmann never says “no” to EBM and electro sounds, so his sessions always turn into drawers full of surprises. He will be at the helm of Pacha this Friday night.
When: Friday, September 20th
Where: Pacha Barcelona
Lineup: Marcel Dettmann, Flug and Steve Bimbelan
1. Dixon and more @ Nitsa Club (Sala Apolo)
He was the best in the last Sónar. And, if you look again at our Xceed DJs of the Year 2018, you’ll see that he was also last year’s best selector. For now, he’s on the same path in 2019. Also German, Steffen Berkhahn is characterized by selecting music full of melody and soul, with an esoteric and even gloomy touch and with ample importance of the bass. Popularly, his music is known as melodic house or melodic techno, depending on the intensity that applies. What is indisputable is that to dance a Dixon set is to surrender to his touches. It’s impossible that a Dixon’s show doesn’t end with an ovation. He’s the best and, with him, we’ll live the best night of the month in Barcelona.
When: Saturday, September 21th
Where: Sala Apolo
Lineup: Dixon and DJ Fra
