Tupac Shakur‘s personal handwritten Tupac Shakur’s letter addressed to Madonna in 1995, while he was still in prison serving the sentence for sexual assault, explains the reason behind their relationship break-up. Indeed, in this document obtained by TMZ, the 22-year old confessed that he broke up with the star because of her white race, saying:

‘For you to be seen with a black man wouldn’t in any way jeopardize your career if anything it would make you seem much more open and exciting. But for me at least in my previous perception I felt due to my ‘image’ I would be letting down half of the people who made me what I thought I was’ Says the artist, adding ‘I never meant to hurt you.’

Tupac also points out that all of this was mainly due to his ego. In the letter, Tupac also refers to an interview Madonna did in which she mentioned she was dating multiple men. It is very possible that, feeling hurt and betrayed by these words, Tupac said that ending their relationship was his ‘eye for an eye.’

According to TMZ, the three-page letter will be auctioned off starting July19at Gotta Have Rock and Roll with a starting bid of US $100,000.
