We had a chat with the team behind Delirium “The Avant-garde Culture Club” led by Joel Garriga, Octavian Dobre, Xavi Izquierdo and Gerard Alberti. It is one of the most acclaimed electronic events on the Costa Brava, which will take a new direction with up to 6 events in a touring format.

No matter how well established a concept is, curiosity and creativity must never be lost in order for new ideas to fluctuate and keep the public always on the lookout. This is directly applicable to the case of Delirium Festival, that after three years of its origin, is ready for much more. The electronic music event based in Mas Sorrer (Girona), will leave its base location to consolidate as an itinerant event with a total of 6 dates spread over some dream locations in the area.
In this new interview, we have had the opportunity to know more in detail everything that is cooking behind the organization and expansion of this “Avant-garde Culture Club”. And what is more, Delirium is about to move up to another level with artists of great status, house and techno tints, such as 2manyDj’s, the peculiar live of the Italian Giorgia Angiuli, Jan Blomqvist or Claptone.
The season kicks off on Saturday 27 May at the Bosc de Can Ginebreda until 31 December at Cap D’Any, with events combining art, gastronomy, nature, performance and, of course, music.

The location is an integral part of every event, being even one of the main attractions for the audience. Until now, you have been a festival with origins in Mas Sorrer… What made you decide to switch to the itinerant format? How difficult do you think it will be to maintain a solid community of followers with such a changing concept?
Delirium has grown with Mas Sorrer, we are very proud of it and that is why we continue to be linked to this space. Over the last few years, we have established our proposal, but we want to continue growing and getting closer to our audience.
For this very reason, the step to become an itinerant event had all the logic in the world. We have fans all over the province of Girona, and we believe that we can get closer to them to strengthen the bond that unites us.
It is a step with a certain risk, as it involves more work, effort and getting to know new places and regions, but we are convinced that the audience (our family) will respond. Delirium will reinforce the experiential part of the event, continuing with all the energy and good vibes it has had in recent years.
You seem to have your expansion goals pretty clear, based on pillars such as art, nature and, of course, music. How far and in what niche of the industry do you think you can reach in three years’ time?
We want to strengthen our proposal as an event that goes beyond music, a place to live a very unique experience. There are very few events that mix electronic music with performance, and even fewer that offer other disciplines and activities around it. In addition, our small capacity, which is far from the overcrowded experience of other festivals, is a value that we want to continue to promote.
We want to reach out to new audiences, to attract people looking for unique experiences beyond music, which will continue to be the main pillar.
Our main objective is to consolidate Delirium in Cataluña, and then visit other cities in Spain where we believe our event will be well welcomed. As the seasons go by, we would like to be able to take Delirium to the main European cities. For now we must focus on strengthening our bond with our loyal audience, make them enjoy and then dream.
How would you sum up the road you are about to walk in one sentence? What are the main challenges you are facing or foresee to face in the process?
This journey that we have started this year is linked to the concept of 2023: A new Daydream… We want to generate a unique universe where people enter another dimension, enjoy themselves and let go with freedom.
This step towards becoming a touring event is probably our biggest challenge, being a growing brand is a risky bet, but it follows the path we want to take to become a reference in the industry.
Regarding the musical aspect, you have carefully selected the names of your upcoming dates, with live formats standing out in many of them. What does a show like this bring to Delirium? What other genres / artists do you think you might lean towards in the future?
For now we are following the same musical direction as in previous years, each event has its own personality and audience, so the musical selection has been chosen with this in mind.
The lives bring a very different experience to the dj set, that’s why we like to bet on them. We want our audience to enjoy and connect with the artists to the maximum, and the live format brings us a lot in that sense.
In the future we will follow our musical approach, although we can certainly open up the spectrum a little more. What we are looking for is to establish the brand as a leader so that we can bring more risky and less known artists, in order to discover international and emerging artists at our events.
In short, what would you say is the “new essence” of Delirium?
The new Delirium is that place where everyone can enjoy a very unique and multidisciplinary event that attracts the most loyal fans of electronic music and those who dive in for the first time, that is memorable and that makes our audience’s minds explode. The Delirium we have all dreamed of.
