Delta Funk pres. Jesse Perez (Miami) & Alix Alvarez (NYC) 7pm to 2am Free before 9pm, $15 after, $10 All Night List w/ RSVP 21+ Funktion One Sound System Delta Funk Residents: Dusty Carter Izzy Ivan Ruiz Roman Nunez Rob Amorin Jesse Perez - In the words of Mike Tyson "If they pay me enough, I'll get in the ring with Jesse Perez". Legend tells it that Jesse was born in a rundown motel in Little Havana (A small latin neighborhood in Miami) minutes after being conceived. Son to a Local Pimp, (who is oddly 10 years older than Jesse) Jesse was exposed to the art of Slangin' D as a young boy. His mother who at that time was a stage dancer for a popular local rap group called the "2 Live Crew", would work many shows for these artist and would sneak Jesse in as often as she could. Jesse's first exposure to Bass Music and Ass Clapping made a huge impression on him. 15 years later, Jesse applied his childhood experiences towards the development of a new visionary company known as "Mr. Nice Guy" . Considered as one of Miami's most promising, and forward thinking companies since Bang Bros. Jesse has managed to not only run this company but also star in several successful "Mr. Nice Guy" films including "Slangin' That D", "Tales From An 8th Street Motel" and "This Hoe Gonna Get Some Dick". Homeboy don't mess around, he means business. Alix Alvarez - Is it any wonder that Alix Alvarez’s music is held in such high regard when we consider that the New Yorker learned his trade under the watchful eyes and ears of many of house music’s true visionaries? Alix was conditioned to be a musical mastermind at an early age. Growing up in the Bronx, Alix began his musical journey on the turntables at the age of 12 mixing house music’s famed “Bango” by Todd Terry to cutting up hip hop tracks by Big Daddy Kane and DJ Premier. During his youth New York City was the heartbeat of house music. Underground institutions such as Timmy Regisford’s “Shelter” and “Little” Louie Vega’s “Dance Ritual” served as early parts of Alix’s education in house music and ignited a passion for music production which led him to attend the Institute of Audio Research in Manhattan. Soon after graduating Alix was given an opportunity that lead him to be an assistant engineer at MAW (Masters At Work) studios owned by “Little” Louie Vega and Kenny “Dope” Gonzales. It was his experience and training at MAW studios that helped him develop his engineering skills as he was beginning to produce and write his own deep house gems. Over the next few years Alix found himself as an integral part of the New York house music scene meshing with receptive players in the industry, such as Sandy Rivera (Kings of Tomorrow) & Osunlade (Yoruba Records) who both served as mentors to him. While working at MAW studios Alix befriended Mr. V, a lower east side local who was also a young budding DJ and worked for the label portion of Masters At Work, MAW Records. The collaboration between Mr.V and Alix was a no-brainer with their complimentary styles in music. Already having a fresh name, artwork to brand themselves and connections to music heads world-wide, the duo launched their now internationally recognized record label, Sole Channel Music. After 8 years of co-owning and operating the label with much success Alix departed from SOLE Channel in order to focus on solo projects and his travels djing around the globe. Alix’s productions have been in regular rotation on playlists amongst the who’s who in house music such as Loco Dice, Josh Wink, Luciano & Ricardo Villalobos amongst others. Alvarez was sought out and internationally recognized for his remix project on UK Soul songstress & Grammy winner Amy Winehouse's "Tears Dry On Their Own" released on Island/Universal UK in 2007. Worldwide success also prevailed for Alix from his collaboration with Mr.V on smash singles “Da Bump” & “Jus Dance” released on Defected Records. However his most acclaimed work has appeared on highly regarded labels such as Real Tone, Innervisions, and the iconic Ovum Recordings. Being fans of Alix’s production, Ovum reached out for a remix of Shlomi Aber’s “NY Dreamer”. The result was a multi week stint at the top of the Beatport Deep House sales chart and incredible support from his peers worldwide. The remix resulted in a follow up project on Ovum, his recent debut EP “Elixr” which received critical acclaim from industry peers. Resident Advisor gave the EP a 4.5 out of 5 rating and writes: “You could argue that, having worked as an engineer at the MAW Studios and been exposed to all the talent that's passed through its doors, The Bronx's Alix Alvarez couldn't fail when it came to his own productions. On Elixr, his debut for Ovum, his versatility and dexterous touch make for one of the best house EPs in recent months”. -Stephen Worthy (Resident Advisor Apr. 9 2013) ¬ Over the past few years Alix has been on the road playing in choice clubs such as Watergate, Space, Cielo & Fabric as well as countless other venues world wide. Alix’s productions and DJ sets continue to push boundaries while keeping his New York roots in tact. He is blazing trails and setting precedence for the future of dance music.
