A sound experience that draws on the dawn of house music in the townships of Pretoria, Durban, Johannesburg and Soweto, where this genre emerged in the 1990s as an expression of liberation. Afro-house fuses the heavy beats of ‘four on the floor’ with tribal percussion, vocals in South African languages, atmospheric synths and a hypnotic ancestral pulse.
