Californian ravers have always expressed their anger of not being able to party as they wish and until late. As a matter of fact, bars and nightclubs shut down at 2am leaving techno scenesters wondering where they can go next.
To solve this problem, California Senator Scott Wiener began a campaign for the Let Our Communities Adjust Late Night Act on the 14th of February. According to him: “Nightlife matters a lot, culturally and economically, and it’s time to allow local communities more flexibility”. The aim of the campaign is to propose bill that would allow municipalities to permit alcohol sales until 4 a.m.
More than the argument of economic growth, Mikey Lion, DJ and co-founder of the Desert Hearts festival said: “If dance clubs could keep their doors open till 4 a.m., it would provide our community with safe, regulated spaces”.
If the Senator’s efforts pass through the next phase, it will definitely change the nightlife face of states like Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco; a delight for party goers but also a big change that could avoid some illicit after-hours venue.
