82 years young and still droppin’ techno beats : Sumiko Iwamuro

There is no age to discover a passion and live it fully. Sumiko Iwamuro, a 82-year-old Japanese woman, has literally proved it. Since her 70, Sumiko Iwamuro discover a new leisure: DJing. Her passion came up after choosing several tracks for her son´s birthday. Since then, she has learned the art of DJing in a specialized school for a year. After holding a gyozas restaurant (Japanese ravioli) for more than 50 years, Iwamuro aka. Sumirock is now performing on the dancefloor of the DecabarZ, a nightclub located in the heart of Shinjuku, Tokyo’s trendy district.

Her influences are mainly composed of techno, jazzy touches and French songs… Interesting combination, right? Iwamuro narrates that she began to love music thanks to his father, who was a jazz drummer. “She has that energy that goes beyond the age and can equal any young person here,” said Reuters Fuminari Fujii, a 25-year-old clubboy. A great lesson of life she is giving us : never too late to follow your dream!
