Every year, the Global Drug Survey conducts an online anonymous drug use survey in the world to establish a non-filtered and constructive assessment. The report for this year 2017 shows an almost general increase in the consumption of various psychotropic products, both illicit and non-illicit.
This year, approximately 115,000 people responded to the Global Drug Survey’s comprehensive questionnaire, explaining their consumption habits. Not surprisingly, the trio alcohol-cannabis-tobacco pulverized the statistics with respectively 98.7%, 77.8% and 63.1% of consumers. Drugs called hard, illicit and more “festive” are placed directly after, with 33.5% of consumers of MDMA, 29.5% for cocaine, 24.4% for hallucinogenic champions, 22.9% for amphetamines, and 22.2% for LSD .
Compared to last year, the statistics show an increase of about 20% in the number of users for all these drugs combined with a marked improvement in the ranking of mushrooms. A psychedelic drug, which according to Dr. Adam Winstock, founder of the Global Drug Survey, is one of the “safest” drugs in the world. The reason for this? Of the 12,000 people who reported taking mushrooms in 2016, only 0.2% reported needing emergency medical treatment, five times lower than MDMA, LSD and cocaine . It is also found that women are twice as likely to require these treatments for almost half of the substances.
The need for medical treatment following the use of cannabis is declining, perhaps indicating that the gradual legalization of the consumption and its supervision made it possible to limit the behaviors at risk. What do you think?
