Today, 18 July, the electronic music scene is in mourning after the death of legend DJ Deeon. The news was made public this morning via the artist’s official Facebook page in a statement:
I’m sorry to announce the legendary artist, producer, DJ, label owner and my friend Deeon ‘DJ Deeon’ Boyd gained his wings today. The family thanks you for your support and will announce arrangements in the coming days. Thank you for your understanding.
Details such as the cause of his death are still unknown. But Deeon had been recently dealing with strokes, pneumonia, chemotherapy and heart surgeries, among other health problems. Last Thursday, he made a post from the hospital asking his fans to pray for him.
The producer is famous for being a pioneer of the ghetto house scene, being one of the essential players in the transformation of the genre. He was also one of the inspirations for Daft Punk and creator of classics such as ‘Freak Like Me’ and ‘WANNA GO BANG’, recently edited by HI-LO. Other artists such as The Blessed Madonna or DJ Godfather have shown their support through social media.
Our sincere condolences to his loved ones. DJ Deeon‘s music legacy will never die. #DJDEEONforever
