Giorgia Angiuli; the multi-instrumentalist and live performer that never played a DJ set

“I don’t know anything about the DJ world, although I respect this skill a lot”, the Italian artist revealed to Xceed 1

– How would you classify your music?

I often ask the same question to myself…

That’s how honest our guest was in the early stages of the interview. It was easy to break the ice. Born in Puglia, in southeastern Italy, Giorgia Angiuli has burst onto the European underground scene in recent years. She has performed in clubs and festivals throughout Europe and reviews have always been positive. Her best performance to date? Impossible to know: “Wow!! It’s hard to choose only one gig. I have great memories of many gigs. Generally, what makes a night perfect is a good sound system, the lights and, above all, lovely people. Their mood is very important to get a good result.”

Giorgia Angiuli focuses her career on the live performance. She tells us that with 9 years old she began her studies of classical music, a genre she still enjoys nowadays, as well as she enjoys opposite styles such as techno. “I’m a big fan of melodies; I could never imagine composing music without melodies, she tells us. Currently, her album is about to be released. It is a project in which Angiuli works with several genres such as indie-electronic, techno, deep and pop.

With these preferences, it would be curious to see what kind of music Giorgia would play if she had to DJ for one night. But that’s something we’ll never see: I have never played a DJ set in my life. I don’t know anything about the DJ world. It’s far from my attitude, but I respect this skill a lot. I got a classical education at the conservatory, and then I started to play live with bands. I have always been interested in the creation of music.”

But if something above all has caught the attention of big audiences, it’s for sure the toys of our interviewee. Giorgia Angiuli produces house and techno using Ableton, but many of the sound layers are applied from sounds (even noises) emitted by several electronic toys: “When I was a kid, I didn’t really like toys. My family gave me a strict education, so no cartoons, no television and a lot of hard studying. They were not happy when I bought my first electric guitar at the age of 12 with the money I got from my relatives. When I moved to Florence to study at the university, I started to collect vintage toys (I have always loved to go around vintage markets) and to integrate them in my music performances. Toys allow me to create romantic and colourful-dreamy atmospheres.”

We knew of her great personality, her great connection with the audience, her visually striking and attractive live act and her excellent musical result. Now, we also know her personal history, the trip that has led her to be one of the most trending artists in the whole world of electronic music.
