Everything you need to know about La Tomatina

Every last Wednesday of August thousands congregate to the small town of Buñol, Spain to participate in a massive food fight in celebration of absolutely nothing. La Tomatina is special in that it’s one of those rare holidays that has no religious significance — it’s throwing shit for the sake of throwing shit. It’s also special for the absolute madness and freedom that exudes from a town-wide fruit-flinging free-for-all.

Whether you’re hungry, happy, sad, or needing to work out some aggression, the answer is La Tomatina. Taking part in a massive food fight with thousands of people from all over the world throwing around a 100,000 kilos of tomatoes is sure to fill that whatever-shaped void in your life. And while the battle lasts just a couple hours, the party doesn’t stop once the last bit of tomato sludge is washed from your crevices.

You can’t miss the official La Tomatina after party, and there’s no better way to prepare for the main event than by soaking your pores in fermented grapes at a water and wine fight in Requeña the night before. You want in on these festivities? Well there’s no greater option than Stoke Travel. Stoke has all that your little heart desires, accommodation, transport, unlimited booze, and is THE party outside the party with a pool, bar and DJ all onsite. Did I mention this is all at the cheapest rate out there? No, it’s not too good to be true. Read on for all the dirty deets. Whatever the need, Stoke Travel has the means. For just €60 a night (two night minimum) you can stay and play at Stoke’s beachside campsite in Puçol from the 28th of August through the 1st of September. €220 will get you three nights camping accommodation, transport and entry into La Tomatina or the two night package, which also includes round trip transfers from Barcelona. For €270 you’ll score three nights camping accommodation, transport and entry into La Tomatina and round trip transfers from either San Sebastian or Madrid. But if you’re short on time, Stoke offers day trips from Barcelona for €95. This package includes transport from Barcelona to La Tomatina at 3:00am on 30th August, and transport back to Barcelona at 7pm.

You’ll have some free time to hang out at the campsite after the fight, complimentary sangria on arrival, and of course entry into the festival. All overnight packages include heaps of killer extras. In addition to pre-erected tents and mattresses set up prior to your arrival, you’ll get daily hot breakfasts, dinner every second night, transfers to and from the tomato fight, La Tomatina entry ticket, a glass of Bloody Mary morning of La Tomatina to set spirits off right, experienced tomato throwing gurus to guide you through the chaos, epic parties at the Stoke campsite, beach games, and more. Not to mention all the beer and sangria you can guzzle for just an extra €10 a day. Transport to the water and wine fight on August 29 can be arranged for €20 (includes a box of wine!) while entry into the official La Tomatina after party is just €15.

So if you’re ready to go nuts with the locals and other open minded humans from all over the world and have the most fun you’ve ever had with food, book that package already and let Stoke Travel show you how to party like a legend.
