DEEP DIVE: LAWS IN MUSIC W/ EMMANUEL VERRAES AND SABAM

What is DEEP DIVE: A series of masterclasses held in Antwerp and Brussels with the aim to support emerging talents in the music industry by providing them with the necessary tools and knowledge for business development in the creative sector. The project has been approved and is fully funded by the Flemish government. This initiative was created both agencies as professional growth and bringing knowledge to underrepresented creatives is their common goal. The topic This edition in Antwerp we will laws in music: copyright,neigbouring rights, the importance of reading and understanding contracts, the importants of organisations like Sabam & recent cases. Emmanuel Verraes is a Brussels-based lawyer specializing in copyright and entertainment law, with over 20 years of experience. After earning an LLM in Intellectual Property Law (Queen Mary, London), he held key legal roles at EMI Music Belgium and The Entertainment Group. Since 2009, he has been an independent lawyer, advising artists, labels, publishers, and media companies like Sony Music and Tomorrowland. Verraes chairs the Intellectual Property Rights section at the Brussels Bar and lectures on IP law and the creative industries. His passion for music continues to shape his work in the entertainment sector. Timothy studied law at the KUL, works as a legal counsel at Sabam and has been with this collecting society for 13 years. He is a point of contact for members and colleagues who have questions about, among other things, copyright, author contracts, operation of collective management societies, etc. He himself comes from a musical family, so it is not surprising that he has been involved in this field in as many ways as possible since a young age.
