About

As part of the heimaten festival for plural democracy, MAAYA Berlin invites you to a party with an extensive DJ lineup and an exhibition by Black Archive Germany, curated by Cate Lartey. The Black Archive Germany project is dedicated to collecting and showcasing the diverse forms of expression of African and Afro-diasporic cultures and their everyday realities in Germany. It addresses the question of how the beauty, depth, and complexity of life in the diaspora can be represented beyond stereotypes. Freak de l'Afrique is one of the pioneering Afro-German cultural collectives and has contributed significantly to presenting the richness and diversity of culture on the African continent through music, art, and dance. The collaboration between Freak de l'Afrique and Black Archive Germany as part of the festival is as obvious as it is compelling: together, they amplify marginalized perspectives, making their cultural and visual legacy in Germany more visible. MAAYA Berlin and the heimaten Festival for Plural Democracy invite the general public to celebrate this unique evening of music, art, and culture. Music curated by Freak de l'Afrique & Friends, featuring Afrobeat, Highlife, Afrobeats, Amapiano, Coupé Décalé, and more.
