Lodged in the Plaça de Santa Ana since June 12, 1897. Not everyone can say that it has as much history as 4 Gats, a place that has survived monarchy, republic and dictatorship, always faithful to its "Gothic-Puigcadalaise-Catalan square-shaped" spirit, as defined by Eugeni d'Ors, an important Catalan character from the beginning of the century, not very similar to the architectural works of Puig i Cadafalch, who restored this original building from, as far as we know, 1420. With this building, the aim was to bring the image of Barcelona closer to that of the Paris of the time. Many artists and intellectuals found refuge here during the period of Catalan Modernism. Among them was Pablo Picasso. Even Woody Allen wanted to have 4 Gats for one of the main scenes of 'Vicky, Cristina, Barcelona'. 4 Gats' Gastrobar offers an endless number of tapas. Our favourites are the beef sirloin steak tartar cut by knife and made at the moment to your taste, the modernist “Art Nouveau” prawns casserole flamed with absinthe and volcanic salt and the beetroot hummus with craft vegetable chips. If you are hungrier, ask for the menu and cheer up with a tagliata of entrecôte with roasted potato, grilled vegetables and pickled tartare sauce, a rice cooked with rockfish stock “fumet” with monkfish, octopus, and prawns, or a duck breast magret with avocado, peach and mango tartar. Are you hungrier now?
