The tower of San Gerolamo, commonly known as the tower of Vengore, is located in Roccaverano, the highest municipality in the Asti area and "capital" of the Langa Astigiana. In the Vengore area, east of the Roccaverano concentric area, the Vengore tower stands alone among wheat fields and woods, becoming an unmistakable point of reference in the panorama of Langa and Monferrato. Built in the second half of the 14th century on municipal commission, the tower was used as a watchtower towards the Bormida di Spigno valley, the Ponzone and the Acquese. In fact, the tower presents the typical characteristics of the watchtowers protecting the Acquese fiefdom, with a square plan, use of local Langa stone, slits and top corbels to support a presumably wooden walkway that no longer exists. However, the large defense moat is still present. The Tower of Vengore with its strategic territorial position represents the focal point of connection with the towers of the surrounding area and is the historical and identifying symbol of the population of the Langa Astigiana and Val Bormida. The structure is made of rough-hewn Langa stone block walls, surmounted by stone corbels. It has a square base and is approximately 30 meters high. From its height you can admire the surrounding landscape consisting of the Bormida di Spigno Valley with the Mombaldone gullies up to the frame of the Alps.
