Friend began his journey as a music journalist in 2010 founding Psymedia before taking up DJing 2017. In 2018 he moved from South Africa to Vietnam and quickly established himself as a formidable DJ and promoter in the region. From sandy beaches down south to mystical caves up north, Friend played at many reputable clubs, festivals and tropical jungle raves such as Studio Adventure, Savage, Retreat (Equation), We Groove and Equinox Festival. His creatively curated 'This Is' club nights and prolific sunrise afterparties in Hanoi under his humble record label Magic Box Engine also played a pivotal role in shaping the city's underground music scene. Since returning to Cape Town in 2021, Friend has performed at renowned festivals and prolific venues such as Wolfkop Weekender, Bazique, Habitat, Into The Wild, Afrikaburn, Origin Festival and Modular Club. Often eclectic, sometimes obscure, always tasteful - Friend's forever evolving sound is heavily influenced by his nomadic travels in SE Asia, South America and Europe. Never shy to switch up the genre or tempo, his versatile approach sees him blending elements of ambient, house, minimal, techno, electro and breakbeats spanning both new school and old.
