Umberto Palazzo è nato a Vasto e ha imparato a suonare la chitarra da autodidatta all'età di undici anni. Durante gli anni del liceo classico a Vasto, ha avuto l'opportunità di trascorrere l'estate del 1981 a Bristol, in Inghilterra, dove è stato influenzato dall'apice del post-punk inglese. Questa esperienza lo ha ispirato a fondare la band AUT AUT, con cui ha registrato diversi demotape.
Successivamente, si è trasferito a Bologna per frequentare la facoltà di giurisprudenza, continuando nel frattempo a coltivare la sua passione per la musica rock, punk e new wave. Ha suonato in varie band, tra cui gli Ugly Things e gli Allison Run, prima di fondare i Massimo Volume, con cui ha suonato fino al 1993.
Nel 1994, dopo l'esperienza con i Massimo Volume, Palazzo ha creato il Santo Niente, che è stato messo sotto contratto dal Consorzio Produttori Indipendenti (CPI), etichetta gestita da Giovanni Lindo Ferretti, Massimo Zamboni e Gianni Maroccolo. Il gruppo ha prodotto diversi album e ha partecipato anche alla colonna sonora del film "Jack Frusciante è uscito dal gruppo" nel 1996.
Dopo lo scioglimento del CPI, la casa discografica con cui il Santo Niente era sotto contratto, Palazzo ha sciolto il gruppo e si è dedicato alla carriera da disc jockey per alcuni anni prima di rifondare il Santo Niente nel 2001.
Parallelamente alla sua carriera musicale, Palazzo ha insegnato Storia della Popular Musica al Conservatorio Luisa D'Annunzio di Pescara e ha prodotto diverse antologie musicali.
Nel 2011, ha pubblicato il suo primo album da solista, "Canzoni della notte e della controra", seguito da altri progetti musicali sia da solista che con il Santo Niente. Il suo terzo album da solista, "Belvedere Orientale", è stato pubblicato nel 2022. Nel 2024 torna live con Umberto Palazzo & Il Santo Niente.

The Monk, whose name is deliberately inspired by the omnivorous and revolutionary talent of jazz pianist Thelonious Sphere Monk, was born in Rome in the Casalbertone/Portonaccio district, less than a kilometer from one of the capital's most important hubs, the Tiburtina railway and metro station.
It is an open and inclusive space dedicated to those who want to produce, share, and engage with cultural experiences, including specific activities for all age groups. The content on offer is aimed at those who are curious about new artistic and cultural productions, as well as those who enjoy seeking out small projects by independent artists.
The venue was previously home to La Palma Club from around 1995 to 2007 and hosted prestigious concerts and festivals for over a decade, primarily focusing on jazz, ethnic, and auteur music.
In 2014, after seven years of closure, the space was reopened thanks to remediation and redevelopment efforts by the Social Promotion Association C'MON!, aiming to improve access, usability, and preserve the space's significance within the city fabric.
Monk is a multifaceted and diverse space dedicated to sharing, well-being, and the functional and mindful enjoyment of cultural content, offering a continuous flow of stimuli and experiences.
It is a place for those eager to produce, share, and engage with cultural experiences, including specific activities for every age group. The content caters to those intrigued by new artistic and cultural productions, as well as those who enjoy discovering small projects by independent entities.
