CURTIS HARDING // Live at MONK ROMA // 5 SETTEMBRE 2024 Opening act: [KSR] Growing up, Curtis Harding’s mother used to tell him, “Give me my flowers while I’m still here.” It was a phrase that stuck with the talented singer and multi-instrumentalist through the years, a reminder to show his love and appreciation for the people he cared about before it was too late. “That’s what this album is,” Harding reflects. “It’s me giving my flowers to the world, to anybody who needs to hear what these songs have to say right now.” Harding’s been searching for comfort and peace in music as far back as he can remember. Born in Saginaw, Michigan to a mechanical engineer and a gospel singer, Harding spent much of his formative years on the move, bouncing between north and south until his family ultimately landed in Atlanta. He learned to sing and play drums in church with his mother, who introduced him to the likes of Mahalia Jackson and Mavis Staples, but it was his sister’s collection of hip-hop tapes that would push him towards a career in music and inspire him to begin writing and rapping. With the Atlanta scene exploding onto the national stage at the time, Harding picked up work promoting artists on the legendary LaFace label and he soon found himself in the studio and on the road as a backup vocalist with some of the city’s biggest stars. 20:00 Apertura porte 21:15 [ K S R ] 21:45 Curtis Harding

The Monk, whose name is deliberately inspired by the omnivorous and revolutionary talent of jazz pianist Thelonious Sphere Monk, was born in Rome in the Casalbertone/Portonaccio district, less than a kilometer from one of the capital's most important hubs, the Tiburtina railway and metro station. It is an open and inclusive space dedicated to those who want to produce, share, and engage with cultural experiences, including specific activities for all age groups. The content on offer is aimed at those who are curious about new artistic and cultural productions, as well as those who enjoy seeking out small projects by independent artists. The venue was previously home to La Palma Club from around 1995 to 2007 and hosted prestigious concerts and festivals for over a decade, primarily focusing on jazz, ethnic, and auteur music. In 2014, after seven years of closure, the space was reopened thanks to remediation and redevelopment efforts by the Social Promotion Association C'MON!, aiming to improve access, usability, and preserve the space's significance within the city fabric. Monk is a multifaceted and diverse space dedicated to sharing, well-being, and the functional and mindful enjoyment of cultural content, offering a continuous flow of stimuli and experiences. It is a place for those eager to produce, share, and engage with cultural experiences, including specific activities for every age group. The content caters to those intrigued by new artistic and cultural productions, as well as those who enjoy discovering small projects by independent entities.
