Lee Ann Roberts has an energetic and engaging personality that permeates into her sound, even the hardest techno can have a playful side, with subtlety and soul, an ethos she embodies in her own productions and sets. Born in South Africa her first break was when she landed her own show on Cape Town’s Mutha FM radio station in 2010 where she started out playing minimal and melodic techno whilst working as a model, taking her around the world she took inspiration from dabbling in vinyl shopping and collection. This was when she came across some of the visionary pioneers of electronic music including Richie Hawtin, Magda and Jeff Mills. Her debut single ‘Miyamoto’ on Spanish label Suara in 2020 reached Beatports No.2 spot in their Hard Techno Chart. Other releases soon followed on labels including Octopus, Blackworks and Gomboc Records, but it’s her NowNow Records launched in 2021 with her single ‘I Want You’ is where she has been focused on growing and releases her latest productions. From Timewarp to Awakenings, BPM alongside Jeff Mills and DGTL, to countless other gigs across the world, Roberts has continually progressed, road-testing her tracks and with shows coming up at Fabric London, Space Miami, VW Arena in Istanbul, Mixmag at ADE, as well as an Indian and Asian tour, she has a busy end of 2024 ahead.
