What happens when two friends pack their bags during a global lockdown and head to Mexico with zero guarantees? If you\u2019re the brains behind LA ASO<\/a><\/strong>, you accidentally build one of Barcelona<\/strong>\u2019s most authentic electronic music collectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fast forward from those days throwing parties on Tulum rooftops, and LA ASO has grown from a small crew into a respected group, collaborating with deep house and minimal institutions like Slapfunk<\/a><\/strong>, Half Baked<\/a><\/strong> & more. Lacking true resources at the very start forced them to get creative; a humbling beginning that taught them a special atmosphere doesn’t depend on how good the club is. Instead, it\u2019s all about the people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Consequently, they\u2019ve gained a decent reputation for taking over unpredictable spaces and elevating them into real dancefloors. Speaking of unexpected venues… this Saturday, July 4th<\/a><\/strong>, they’ll be taking over the historic Casino La Floresta<\/a><\/strong> for their HOUSE ALWAYS WINS<\/em> session from 15:00 to 23:00<\/a><\/strong>. Nestled in the hills of Collserola, this outdoor event will see the decks handled by vinyl diggers and selectors DJ Senc<\/a>, E.LINA<\/a>, Laidlaw<\/a>, <\/strong>and Nesta<\/a><\/strong>, who’ll be betting on some real sonic substance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We sat down with the crew to chat about their wild Mexican origins, how the right venue changes the way we dance, and why staying true to your values is the ultimate cheat code in a crowded market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s dive in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s go back to the beginning. Right after the pandemic restrictions started to lift, you both decided to pack up and head to Mexico. How did living out there and throwing events in that specific context shape the DNA of La Aso?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To be honest, we went to Mexico in the middle of Covid without really knowing what to expect. At the time, most of the world was still heavily restricted, but Mexico felt like one of the few places where things were still moving. We were 22 and 23 years old, so we thought: why not? Let’s take the risk and see what happens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We arrived with a lot of enthusiasm, very little experience and no guarantees that anything would work out. But those months ended up shaping a huge part of who we are today. We learned a lot, met incredible people and built relationships that still exist today. In fact, many of the friends and community members we met in Mexico still travel to Europe and attend our events years later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pisano was working at Dskonnect Bookings at the time and thanks to his boss Dani, we had the opportunity to meet some of the key promoters and figures in the Mexican scene. We spent months having meetings, learning how things worked, understanding the culture and absorbing as much knowledge as possible. Little by little, we started organising our own events. Fridays at Caba\u00f1as La Luna on the beach and Sundays at Nana Rooftop in the centre of Tulum became our weekly routine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those were intense months. A lot of learning, a lot of mistakes, a lot of adventures and probably a few situations that our parents would have preferred not to know about. But if we had to say what Mexico really gave us, it would be the DNA of LA ASO. It taught us that this scene is built on people, above all else. Before lineups, before venues and before social media. The relationships we created there became friendships, and many of those friendships are still part of our journey today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s probably why LA ASO has always felt more like a family than a company. We learned very early that if you take care of people, create genuine connections and stay true to your values, everything else tends to follow. That mindset has stayed with us ever since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You have a real talent for picking spots that aren’t just standard black-box clubs. Whether it\u2019s an open-air vineyard for D\u00eda de Cavas with theBasement crew, beachside decks, or your upcoming one at Casino La Floresta, how much does the venue change the way people dance and interact compared to a traditional dancefloor?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For us, the venue changes everything. We’ve always believed that people remember how a place made them feel more than they remember the details of a lineup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe that’s because of how we started. In the early days we didn’t have access to clubs, so we organised events wherever we could. Rooftops, villas, terraces, outdoor spaces. We learned very quickly that a special atmosphere doesn’t depend on a dark room and a big production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you bring people somewhere unexpected, they experience the music differently. They arrive with a different mindset. They become more curious, more present and more connected to the environment around them. That’s something we’ve always tried to preserve as we’ve grown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In just a few years, you\u2019ve earned the respect and partnerships of some of the most respected institutions in house music like Slapfunk, Trommel, Half Baked, theBasement and more. When crews that are notoriously picky about sound and vibe agree to co-curate a lineup with you, what does that say about the trust La Aso has built within the global scene?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Honestly, we’re still surprised by some of the partnerships we’ve been able to build. A few years ago we were attending many of these events as guests and fans. Today we’re lucky enough to collaborate with some of the projects we admired the most. We don’t think there’s a secret formula behind it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’ve always tried to do things in a very honest way. Treat people well, work hard and keep improving year after year. At the same time, we’ve worked a lot behind the scenes to build a solid foundation around LA ASO. As the project grows, we’ve had to become more structured, more organised and more professional. What we never want to lose is the human side of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’re still a relatively small team and many of the people involved have been with us for years. Artists often tell us that when they come to a LA ASO event, it doesn’t feel like a job. It feels like spending time with friends who happen to be organising an event together. For us, that’s probably the nicest compliment we can receive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
