Joyce Muniz is one of the most striking artists on the Viennese underground scene. With Brazilian roots and influences coming also from Venezuela, this Austrian producer and singer has already shown in several imprints that her tunes are beginning to be ready to sound on the best dancefloors of the scene. Labels such as Exploited, K7!, Get Physical and 2020 Vision have already confirmed so. Joyce Muniz now lands on Poker Flat Recordings, the label owned by Steve Bug. Without a doubt, one of her biggest achievements to date.
I am a Poker Flat fan since day 1 and I consider Steve Bug is one of the big legends. I grew up with this label, so to me, it’s an honour to release on it. It gives me the encouraging feeling that I’m on the right path.
Joyce Muniz makes her debut on Poker Flat with the What’s Your Name EP, a release featuring a single with an instrumental version and another with Demetrius’ brilliant vocals.
I actually recorded Demetrius’ vocals two years ago, but originally for a totally different track. Over the years I decided to keep the vocals and experiment around with different beats until it became the track that you now listen to. I remember asking Demetrius while recording to imagine being lost in a corridor of a dark club. It created just the right atmosphere for him to develop those beautiful, mysterious and dark vocals.
Joyce Muniz started to modify the structure of the original track when she got her first Moog Sub 37, which is the soul of this track. The Viennese artist tells us that she chose two different basslines from the Moog, some polyphonic sounds from Arturia’s Minibrute 2S and pads from the Elektron Analog.
By listening “What’s Your Name”, you will definitely feel that sensual atmosphere of being in a dark club, trying to find that mysterious person that you saw on the dancefloor earlier that night. So far, I’m very happy with the feedback.
