Nightlife might not be the most important factor that makes you choose to study in one city over another, but who wants to spend the best time of their life in a dull and boring place? Keep reading to discover our top 5 Spanish university cities with a great nightlife

Which one is yours?

Barcelona

Modernist architecture, beaches, international environment…and the fantastic nightlife, of course! Everyone loves Barcelona. Tourists love it and so do students. Local bars and clubs might not be exactly cheap; but in terms of facilities, vibes, music and variety they are second to none.

Located in Port Olimpic, the legendary Pacha Barcelona has been offering the best house by the beach since its opening. Are you looking for a stylish joint? Then head to Otto Zutz. Do you prefer urban and underground music? Write this name down: Razzmatazz, the leading alternative music club situated in Poble Nou.

Granada

Granada is the European city that attracts the highest number of Erasmus students. Fact. It might be because of its located halfway between the sea and the mountains. The truth is that the great university environment and nightlife quality probably tops the list of reasons why foreign students choose Granada as their Erasmus destination.

Start out in one of the many tapas bars in the city, such as Los Diamantes, Niza or Aliatar. It’s always easier to party on a full stomach, isn’t it? Go the Pedro Antonio de Alarcón street and the surroundings for the first drinks of the night and then head to popular nightclubs Mae West or la Sala Prince (in the Realejo neighbourhood). Boom Boom Boom, located nearby the cathedral in a former cinema and theatre facilities, is highly recommended for a classy experience.

Madrid

The Spanish capital is certainly one of the best cities for going out. You can’t get bored here. You’ll be spoiled for choice with so many bars, pubs and clubs.

Kapital is probably the best known club in the city, and it’s absolutely huge! A former theatre over seven floors, each floor offering a different music style and design. If you’re looking for a unique experience with a luxurious and lavish vibe, Opium is the place to go. Very close to the famous Castellana avenue, Opium is ideal to celebrate a special occasion. You can start by having dinner at its elegant restaurant and end up on the dancefloor to the beat of house and dance.

Salamanca

Not only is Salamanca home to the oldest university in Spain, but also a great city to party. The early and quirky New Year’s Eve celebrations (Nochevieja Universitaria) organised by the students is today one of the best university parties. Last year more than 40,000 students were part of it!

In the area surrounding the main square, you’ll find good bars and pubs, such as Gran Café Moderno and El Submarino. The Bordadores street is also a must and is home to , the most popular nightclub in town. Don’t forget to pop by the nearby pubs Gatsby, Capitolium and Niebla. The wow factor is in Cvm Lavde, a club with an impressive decoration that replicates the main square.

Valencia

The Mediterranean city is the perfect place to party. The Ruzafa neighbourhood is the area to be at the moment for a great night out.  Among other things, you can listen to house, electro or UK garage. If you’re looking for an unforgettable and stylish experience in an incredible location, go to Mya/L’Umbracle. Its location in the City of Arts and Science area is ideal for a perfect summer night partying outdoors and there are VIP areas you can book if you’ve got something special to celebrate. The best house/electro/techno in Valencia can be found in La3. This is one of the favourites for both Spanish and Erasmus students, and the university feel is great here.
