The 13th edition of MIRA Digital Arts and Music Festival once again affirmed its status as a leading event in the electronic music and digital arts scene, drawing a record 10,000 attendees to the Fira Montjuïc on November 8 and 9. With day tickets and passes selling out on the festival’s opening day, this year’s MIRA delivered immersive experiences and top-tier performances that underscored its reputation for innovation and excellence.
Our journey through MIRA 2024 began with a milestone for the festival: the European premiere of Bicep’s “CHROMAVISION” at Sala Phenomena. Directed by the duo’s longtime visual collaborator, Zak Norman, this short film expanded their CHROMA project into new artistic territory. The sold-out screening, held the day before the festival officially began, concluded with an open mic Q&A, offering a rare glimpse into the inspirations and creative process behind the work. With anticipation high, it was time to rest, knowing the real deal was about to begin.
A Sonic and Visual Journey Through MIRA
The mainstage experience on Friday highlighted MIRA’s dedication to avant-garde performances, starting with Lorenzo Senni’s electrifying live AV show. The Italian artist channeled raw energy through pulsating synths and vivid visuals, taking the audience on a kinetic journey that reflected MIRA’s ethos of merging sonic excellence with visual artistry.
The pinnacle of the night belonged to Bicep, whose headlining DJ set transformed the mainstage into a pulsating haven. Supported by their signature CHROMA visuals, the duo crafted a sonic journey that blended UK garage, house, and breakbeat rhythms. Tracks from Floating Points, Ross From Friends, and their own productions, including the euphoric “Apricots” and some of their CHROMA project releases, sent waves of energy across the dancefloor.
The night concluded with a mesmerizing live AV performance by Rick Farin + Actual Objects, whose surreal and almost dadaist visuals and soundscapes transported attendees into a trippy, hypnotic realm—a fitting close to an exhilarating first day.
MIRA’s secondary stage continued to impress with an eclectic array of acts. Among them, Nadah El Shazly captivated the audience with a performance that blended her stunning voice, a live band featuring a harp, and electronic textures. It was a sublime fusion of traditional and contemporary elements, showcasing MIRA’s commitment to sonic diversity.
Immersive Artistry Beyond the Music
The digital arts program featured 10 interactive installations that reimagined the festival space and captivated attendees throughout MIRA 2024. Among the standout pieces was Photons by Eyesberg, an LED light sculpture in constant dialogue, creating an ever-shifting interplay of light. Similarly impressive was ECHO by VPM in collaboration with Cultura Inquieta, an installation that explored the resonance of light and sound in real time, captivating onlookers with its dynamic synchronicity.
Collectif Coin’s MA elevated the immersive experience, transforming the venue into a mesmerizing sensory spectacle, while ALTAR by Penique Productions and Óscar Zabala evolved from a serene environment into a pulsating clubbing atmosphere. Even the festival’s entrance commanded attention, boasting a laser-based installation that quickly became a favorite among festivalgoers and a frequent subject of photos.
Complementing these installations, the MIRA Dome offered another layer of immersive artistry. Here, a series of breathtaking films transported attendees to new realms of visual and auditory exploration. Among the highlights were Desilence and Suzanne Ciani’s “The Rhythm of the Ocean”, a striking work that combined stunning visuals with a poignant commentary on plastic pollution and microplastics. This powerful piece resonated deeply, blending social awareness with captivating art. Together, the digital installations and the MIRA Dome underscored the festival’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of art, technology, and social consciousness.

With its bold programming, cutting-edge installations, and unique blend of music and visual art, MIRA 2024 once again solidified its place as a cultural touchstone in Barcelona’s electronic music scene. The festival is already looking ahead to 2025, announcing Oneohtrix Point Never as the first confirmed artist. The renowned electronic music producer will present his critically acclaimed album “Again” live—another reason to mark MIRA on the calendar as an unmissable date for 2025.
