For those who have never heard of ADE before (shame on you), Amsterdam Dance Event is one of the dance music’s key industry get-togethers. The festival, which is celebrating its 21st year in 2017, brings together music lovers and industry professionals to the Netherlands for a five-day run of club shows, panel discussions and business meetings. ADE attracts 365,000 festival visitors to Amsterdam each year, with more than 2,000 DJs performing at the city’s clubs.
Arguably the best event of its kind, ADE’s conference connects people from all ends of the global electronic music community, with a programme of panels, presentations and networking events tailored for artists as well as industry professionals.
One of the events that will definitely not stay unnoticed is the 62-hour long party marathon at De School.
De School opened in January 2016 on Doctor Jan van Breemenstraat in Amsterdam’s west. The venue, which used to be a technical school, is more than a nightclub: it’s also has a concert venue, a restaurant, a café, an exhibition space and a gym. It has a 24-hour license and is open seven days a week. The nightclub has a capacity of 700 and is located in the school’s former bicycle storage area. The club’s programming focuses on local DJs, who are given the opportunity to play extended sets.
International artists Aurora Halal, Oceanic, Stellar OM Source, Kara-Lis Coverdale, Iona Fortune and Ramzi will be playing sets during the 62-hour party.
De School promoter Luc Mastenbroek told RA the marathon party was a way to show how all of dance music’s subcultures could coexist. Mastenbroek said: “After last year’s ADE we realized we weren’t happy with separate events anymore. It seemed more fun to try and show how different disciplines, genres and subcultures are related, instead of breaking them apart.”
The event will run from October 20 to October 23, so make sure you get some rest the days before!
