5 bomb tracks played by Dekmantel Soundsystem at Intimate Journeys

By Paco Cavaller

October 28, 2019

It was a Saturday full of plans to dance in Barcelona. Several top-notch headliners – such as Amelie Lens, Ellen Allien or Sebastien Leger – were also performing in the city. But dancing to the favourite music of the creators of the Dekmantel festival for 5 hours is not something that can be done very often. We couldn’t miss it.

Thomas Martojo – half of the founding duo of one of the most sought-after and valued festivals on the underground scene – had problems with his flight to Barcelona and was unable to attend the event. Casper Tielrooij did. With his usual unselfish and natural appearance, a rotary mixer, 3 CDJs and a turntable, Tielrooij represented Dekmantel navigating between ambient with light broken bases, leftfield house, funk, psychedelic disco and even indie dance.

The dancefloor struggled to fill up. The session took place from 10 pm to 3 am and it wasn’t until after midnight that Razzmatazz’s Sala 3 – also known as Lolita – began to look crowded. Those present danced to the rhythm of the Dutchman and surrounded the cosy DJ booth during the whole night, creating that intimate sensation that the organization was looking for.

5 hours can fit a lot of music… and generate a lot of exhaustion. Some of the mixes were not precise, not even accurate, and were limited to a down-and-up fader move. Casper Tielrooij’s greatest skills were in the selection and that’s where we got the most out of the night. Next, we left you with 5 of the best tracks that sounded during the extended set of Dekmantel Soundsystem at the October’s Intimate Journeys at Razzmatazz, Barcelona.

Alka Yagnik & Shankar Mahadevan & Anu Malik – Koi Jaye To Le Aaye (Tjade Edit)

Casco – Cybernetic Love

LSDXOXO – Death Rattle

Mata Hari – Mata Hari

Klein & MBO – Last Call (European Connection Unreleased Instrumental)
