"Can Recasens: Art and good food winery since 1906." That is what we read on his business card when we first visited this traditional Catalan restaurant. We couldn't help but ask about his menu while we walked along the Rambla del Poblenou, one of the most beautiful promenades in Barcelona. Once inside, surrounded by bricks and dim lighting, we discovered the charms of this old butcher's shop, first, and then a delicatessen and cheese shop, founded more than a century ago by the Recasens family. After five generations, the premises have mutated into what we now know as a wine-tasting room, although its appearance, style and decoration remain faithful to the bohemian idiosyncrasies of its beginnings. Salads, cheese boards and pâtés, sausage toasts, fondues, carpaccios... and their vermouth. Above all, its vermouth. In fact, Can Recasens is also a vermouth shop and renews its wines weekly to adapt them to its products. The cherry on the cake is live music. Jazz is the genre that usually takes over the place at night.
